The drop in unemployment in February in the Community doubles the state average

The number of unemployed people in the Community registered in the offices of the Public Employment Service ( SEPE ) in February 2018 has decreased by 7.5% year-on-year. In total, the Community has 392,794 unemployed, registering 2,045 unemployed compared to January of this year.

By province, Alicante has registered a decrease in Email Data unemployment of 6%, to 159,668 unemployed; Castellón has reduced the rate by 9.1%, to 41,313; and in Valencia the number of unemployed has fallen by 8.3%, to 191,813 people.

By sectors, the services sector is the one with the highest unemployment rate and accounts for 68% of total unemployment in the Community. Industry, with 13.6%, occupies second position, while the construction and agriculture sectors account for 8.2% and 3.7% of the total rate, respectively.

Regarding the number of contracts, 4.86% more contracts have been registered in year-on-year terms, which has meant a total of 144,737 contracts. Of them, 13.1% are permanent, while temporary employment continues to dominate, with 86.9%.

More affiliates to Social Security
The average affiliation to Social Security added 615,259 people in the last year, the best figure in the last 11 years. In February, the system incorporated 81,483 members, which puts the total number at 18,363,514 employed.

The number of working women affiliated with Social Security was 8,499,533, representing 46.28% of the total employed, while men reached 9,863,981 employed.

In the opinion of the Secretary of State for Social Security, Tomás Burgos , “ we are facing very favorable behavior and we confirm a very favorable evolution, especially if we take into account that we have been chained for 12 months growing above 600,000 employed people and the interannual rate “It continues to progress, from 3.44% last month to 3.47% .”

Good data, not for all
By , in the Community, women continue to lead the unemployment rate, accumulating 58.9% of the total unemployed.




The regional Secretary of Employment, Enric Nomdedéu , has positively assessed the unemployment data for the month of February. However, he pointed out that "in 2018 the wage gap is still valid and, according to the latest active population survey, activity and employment rates are lower among women and with a wage disadvantage of 25%, even greater among people of over 45 years old and in low-skilled occupations . « The objective in the Comunitat -he has pointed out- is to promote and support female employment and the economic independence of women, in order to end the wage gap and achieve real gender equality.»

From UGT they have also denounced the Government's passivity in the face of equality policies and have demanded real and effective measures to combat the labor, economic and social discrimination that women receive.

The union warns that of the total decrease in unemployment registered in this month of February, only 20.03% have a woman's face, while men are the group with the greatest concentration in the decrease in unemployment.
